Join Hopscotch Theatre Company as a Trustee. Help bring bold, inclusive theatre to children across Scotland
Hopscotch Theatre Company is seeking new Trustees to support our vision, shape our strategy, and champion inspiring, accessible theatre for children and young people. Based in Govan, Glasgow, we’re a Scottish charity with a 37-year legacy of creating bold, rebellious, and joyous productions that spark creativity, confidence, and critical thinking in young audiences, especially in underrepresented communities.
Who We Are
Every year, we tour original plays and pantomimes to schools, libraries, and communities, reaching over 9,000 children and young people. We believe theatre should be for everyone, and we work hard to remove barriers to access — from rural locations and economic disadvantage to learning support needs.
Our work is shaped by conversations with educators, children, and artists. We deliver theatre that’s both educational and fun, and we’re proud to align with Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, helping schools support emotional wellbeing, inclusion, and literacy through creative experiences.
Upcoming projects include Space Raiders, a new time-travelling pirate sketch show tackling social media and misinformation, and RISE, a creative learning programme blending performance with digital culture.
What Trustees Do
As a Trustee, you’ll guide Hopscotch’s future, helping us to stay financially sound, legally compliant, and deeply rooted in our values of inclusivity, creativity, and community.
Your core responsibilities will include:
• Supporting governance and ensuring compliance as a charity
• Helping shape and approve strategy, policies, and budgets
• Providing advice on fundraising, partnerships, and sustainability
• Acting as an ambassador for our mission and values
Time commitment:
We hold four online Board meetings a year (evenings, 2 hrs) plus one annual in-person development day. Trustees are also invited to rehearsals, launches, and special events.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome people from all backgrounds, and you don’t need to have been a Trustee before. We're especially interested in skills or experience in:
• Charity governance and law
• Finance, fundraising, or budgeting
• Education and curriculum expertise
• Community development or youth services
• Marketing, media, or communications
We're also looking for people who are:
• Enthusiastic about our work and mission
• Community-focused and ready to contribute
• Supportive team players who also bring independent thinking
• Happy to use their lived or professional experience to help Hopscotch grow
Inclusion Matters
We aim for our Board to reflect the communities we serve. We particularly encourage applications from:
• Black, Asian, Mixed Ethnic and/or people of colour
• LGBTQI+ individuals
• Disabled people
• People with care experience
• Parents, carers, and people living in underrepresented communities
What You’ll Get in Return
Although the role is voluntary, being a Trustee with Hopscotch is incredibly rewarding. You’ll:
• Help bring arts to children who need it most
• Develop new skills in leadership, strategy, and governance
• Be part of a welcoming, passionate, and values-led team
• Attend performances and see the impact of your work first-hand
• Be part of shaping the future of children’s theatre in Scotland
