Be part of an award-winning team that puts joy, dignity, and community connection at the heart of ageing well. As a Volunteer Driver, you’ll help make social lives possible for older adults by turning everyday journeys into meaningful experiences.
About the Organisation
Weekday WOW Factor (WOW) is a multi-award-winning Volunteer Involving Organisation (VIO) that works to improve the lives of older adults across Glasgow. Using Occupational Therapy principles, WOW helps people stay active, connected, independent and safe in their own homes and communities. Through programmes such as Daytime Discos, local outings and social events, WOW provides fun and meaningful ways for older adults to engage and thrive. Volunteers are a key part of our mission.
The Opportunity – Volunteer Driver
Do you hold a clean driving licence with a D1 category and want to make a real difference in your community? We're looking for compassionate and reliable volunteer drivers to help older adults attend our events and outings. Whether it's a trip to a disco, the park, or a local social gathering, you'll be providing essential transport that makes a huge difference in someone's life.
Key Responsibilities
• Safely drive a minibus or community vehicle to transport older adults to and from events
• Follow pre-planned pick-up and drop-off routes within Glasgow and surrounding areas
• Assist passengers on and off the vehicle, ensuring comfort, accessibility, and dignity
• Support participants with bags or mobility aids if required
• Communicate clearly and warmly with older adults and WOW staff
• Help with basic coordination and timekeeping on the day
Time Commitment
• Weekdays only, with sessions generally running between 10:00am and 3:00pm
• Flexible frequency – from occasional to regular support, depending on your availability
• Locations vary, but all routes and schedules will be confirmed in advance
Travel and Support Information
• Full induction and support provided by WOW staff
• Route guidance and event planning handled by the WOW team
• All vehicles are insured and maintained by WOW
• Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed in line with our policy

Experience required
Skills and Qualities Needed
• Valid D1 driving licence and a clean driving record
• Good road awareness and a calm, patient driving style
• Reliable and punctual with good time management
• Friendly, approachable and respectful of older adults
• Able to work independently but also part of a wider team
• Understanding of or openness to learning about supporting people with additional needs
Travel details
Driving routes will vary depending on the event location but are generally within Glasgow and nearby areas. All journey plans and timings will be shared in advance by the WOW team. Vehicles are provided and maintained by the organisation. Reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses, such as public transport to vehicle pick-up points, can be reimbursed in line with WOW’s volunteer expenses policy.
