Van Assistant

Starter Packs Glasgow supports people across the city when they are moving into a new tenancy, usually after homelessness, but it can equally be when people are moving on from care, prison or the forces, starting over after relationship breakdowns, or fleeing domestic situations, or being re-homed after a fire or flood. Whatever the reason people are starting over, we provide them with a pack of household essential items which is designed to allow people to settle into their new homes quickly, sustain their tenancy, alleviate the financial strain of having to buy new items for the home at once along with the anxiety that can often go with it.

Our van team is the beating heart of Starter Packs Glasgow. They deliver all of our packs across the city. as well as collecting furniture and bulk collection items from our donators as well as delivering furniture items that have sold in our charity shops.

The role can be very physical ( you can always guarantee that if someone buys a sofa, its going up three flights of stairs in a tenement) so it is important to be fit to do the role. Previous experience of lifting and handling is helpful, but we will ensure you have training for that and we can try and ensure that volunteers who only wish to deliver starter packs don't go out on the furniture van if that is possible.

Our vans tend to be out for the entire morning or afternoon, so if you want to volunteer with our van team, you need to be able to commit to a full session from 9:00am-12/12:30 approx. or 1:00pm to 4/5:00pm as it might be that the van isn't able to return to the office in the middle of a run to a particular postcode area of the city.

If you are interested please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator by email. If you have not heard back after 5 working days, the first step is to contact the organisation with the contact details provided. You could also check your junk/spam folder on your emails just in case the response is there. If that doesn’t work out then please feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow on 0141 226 3431.
