Companion Volunteer - Grampian

We would love to tell you more about our Companion Volunteer opportunity
Marie Curie is looking for compassionate, everyday people to join our Companion Team within the surrounding areas of: Iverurie, Banchory, Kemnay & Oldmeldrum
You don’t need a medical background or all the answers – just a kind heart, a listening ear, and a little time to give.
Take time to visit someone in their home - listen to them, share in their hobbies or interests, and enjoy meaningful conversations about life and the world around them. Even a simple chat over a cup of tea or coffee can offer comfort, companionship, and a steady, reassuring presence.
What you’ll be part of:
Visit a person weekly in their home and spend time with them and their family members
Have a chat, a cuppa, or share some quiet time
Listen to memories, share stories, or talk about everyday things
Support carers or family members by giving them a short break
It’s not about having all the answers - it’s about being a kind presence when it matters

What you’ll gain:
A deep sense of purpose
Supportive training and ongoing guidance
A friendly volunteer network
Recognition for your time
Travel and expenses covered
Access to discounts on shopping, travel and more
Marie Curie Shop Loyalty Card
Kindness doesn’t have to be big to be life-changing
You'd be a great fit if you're:
Patient and non-judgmental of others
Emotionally steady during sensitive moments
Able to commit to 3 hours per week
Comfortable using email and filling in a short visit report
Respectful of personal boundaries and confidentiality
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed monthly directly to the volunteer. We cover travel expenses, including mileage for personal vehicle use at 45p per mile and reimbursement for public transport fares
We are currently unable to accept applications from under 18's to this role, please view our other volunteering opportunities or get in touch with the Volunteer Manager Clare Scott at [email protected] to learn more.
