Volunteer Café Assistant - Lend a Hand and Make Our Café a Great Place to Be!

Lend a Hand and Make Our Café a Great Place to Be!

Love making people smile? Fancy helping out in a warm, welcoming café? Join us as a Volunteer Café Assistant and help serve up tasty treats, warm drinks, and good vibes to visitors, staff, and the people we support. Whether you’re retired, between jobs, studying, or just want to give a little of your time, we’d love to hear from you!

We’re looking for volunteers who can give a few hours a week—the cafe is open Monday to Friday from 8 am until 2 pm —we’ll work around what suits you best.

At TouchBase Glasgow, we support children and adults with complex needs to live their best lives. The centre, located in Kinning Park, offers a bright and welcoming environment where people can enjoy arts, music, physical activities, and social events. It’s a place that fosters independence, builds confidence, and creates a strong sense of community. The café is a key part of this friendly atmosphere, providing a space for connection and relaxation.

We’re currently looking for Volunteer Café Assistants to support this fantastic space.

Volunteering with us is a great way to:

Meet new people and make connections
Learn (or brush up on) food and drink service skills
Build your confidence in a friendly, supportive environment
Gain new skills and experience to add to your CV
Feel good knowing you’re doing something meaningful and rewarding
Be part of a team that makes a real difference to the lives of the people we support
Enjoy plenty of smiles, chat, and the occasional cuppa along the way!

Plus—you’ll get a free Sense Scotland volunteer t-shirt!

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on your interests and confidence, you might help with:

Taking customer orders with a smile

Using a card machine and taking cash as payments

Preparing and serving teas, coffees, breakfasts, lunches and light snacks

Keeping tables and counters clean and tidy

Chatting with customers and making everyone feel welcome

Supporting people we work with to learn café skills (if you'd like!)

Volunteer Support

We’re committed to ensuring every volunteer feels valued, confident, and well-supported throughout their experience with us. As a Volunteer Café Assistant, you’ll receive:

A full induction and training to help you settle into the role, understand the café setup, and feel confident with tasks like using the coffee machine, taking orders, and following hygiene procedures.

Ongoing support from staff who will be on hand to answer questions, provide guidance, and make sure you’re comfortable in your volunteering activities.

Opportunities for check-ins to discuss how you’re getting on, share feedback, and explore any other ways you might like to get involved.

A welcoming team environment, where you’ll be treated as a valued member of the team and your contributions will be appreciated.

Travel expenses reimbursed, so you’re not out of pocket for giving your time.

Recognition and thanks through small events, thank-you notes, and volunteer rewards like the free volunteer t-shirt.

To apply, click the ‘apply’ button (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by the coordinator via email or phone.

If you haven’t heard back within five working days, please first contact the organisation using the provided details, and check your junk or spam folders just in case. If you still need support, feel free to contact Volunteer Glasgow at info@volunteerglasgow.org.

Experience required

You don’t need café experience—just a friendly attitude and a willingness to help. If you’re approachable, reliable, and enjoy being around people, you’ll fit right in! Full guidance and support will be provided.
