Retail Bookshop Volunteer (Trongate)

Do you have a passion for books, music, and media? Can you tell your Dickens from your Colleen Hoover—and love the buzz of a busy, creative space?

We’re looking for volunteers to help support our exciting new concept store in Trongate, Glasgow. This unique space celebrates culture and community through books, music, and media.

If you're a team player with a creative spark and a love for storytelling in all its forms, we’d love to hear from you.


Experience required

This is an opportunity to undertake a satisfying and rewarding role. As part of our team of volunteers, you will provide customer support, whilst working in a friendly atmosphere, providing an extremely useful and appreciated service to the charity. The role includes welcoming and assisting customers, customer service and sales service, stock control, sorting donations, hanging, and ticketing stock and helping to keep the shop clean and tidy.

Travel details

16 Trongate is a 7 minute walk from High Street (Glasgow) rail station and a 6 minute walk from Argyle Street rail station. Frequent buses are available from Glasgow city centre.

Travel expenses

Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. These should be discussed with your Line Manager prior to outlay and must be submitted within the prescribed guidelines as detailed in the CHSS Volunteer Expenses Policy.

Support
Training details

All volunteers are supported by their line manager, usually the manager of the shop. Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland will provide all necessary training about shop procedures, which will be carried out under the guidance of the shop manager. Formal training will include online Manual Handling and Gift Aid Training.

Minimum age: 16
