Coffee Groups are a great way to give people on the autism spectrum and their families an opportunity to improve their confidence, self-esteem and reduce isolation through spending time with others in a group setting and accessing social activities in the community.
What you will be doing
Organising and arranging a monthly Coffee Group with help from the Branch Chair
Ensuring members are informed when there are Coffee Group coming up (via official branch NAS e-mail, social media or text, for example)
Advertising the Coffee Group (posters, leaflets, etc.)
Running the Coffee Group alongside another volunteer, this could be the Branch Chair or someone else
Sharing information if required at the Coffee Group (full training will be given)
Signposting to other support, professionals, organisations etc.
Welcoming new members.
Liaising with other volunteers to ensure there is a volunteer present for the duration of the meeting.
Experience required
Knowledge and experience of the autism spectrum is an advantage but not essential as we can provide training.
Patience and understanding of the needs of others.
Good organisational skills.
The ability to see the world from a different perspective.
Approachable.
Confident in taking the lead at introducing themselves and speaking to new people attending the group.
An ability to make new people feel welcome.

You will be asked to complete our elearning modules which include safeguarding, GDPR and autism understanding
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
Availability
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
