The McBey library is a specialist reference resource in Aberdeen Art Gallery, with a focus on books that relate to the gallery collections.
The library was originally formed following a bequest from Marguerite McBey and has grown over many years. Her bequest was intended to celebrate her husband James McBey, a self-taught artist, born in Newburgh, who used Aberdeen Central Library and Art Gallery as a source of early inspiration and learning. The bequest included many of his artworks, artist tools and memorabilia. A selection of his personal books is also available to view within the library itself.
The library is open on a Thursday and a Saturday from 10 -4. We are seeking to recruit Volunteer Assistants to welcome visitors and provide access to reference materials.
