Helpline Volunteer

Join Our Helpline Team | Make a Real Difference

We’re looking for compassionate, reliable volunteers to join our Next Chapter Scotland Helpline team. This service supports people and families affected by the justice system offering information, advocacy and a listening ear when it’s needed most.

What’s involved:



  • 1 set day a week, 10am–2pm

  • Two full days of initial training

  • Ongoing support and optional further training if you’d like to grow your role

  • Lived experience of the criminal justice system (your own or through a family) is especially valued

  • No PVG required


You’ll be part of a supportive, trauma-informed team helping people take the next step in their journey.

Experience required

In this role you will find yourself interacting with people who have every type of conviction so it is important that you are open to supporting anyone, no matter their offence type.

Skills required:


  • Empathy.

  • Non-judgmental attitude.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • The ability to take and pass on detailed notes.


Travel details

Volunteering is home-based. Induction training will typically take place in Glasgow, however, online options will be made available if travel is prohibitive.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses will be covered.
A phone will be provided. However, Wifi in your home will be required in order to access the telephone service.

Support
Training details

Two full days of induction training will be provided.
All team members undertake safeguarding and trauma-awareness training.
Ongoing training will be providing in both group settings and individually.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
You do not require a PVG to participate in this opportunity. You will require Wifi in your house in order to access our telephone service.
