Loch of Strathbeg Bushcraft Group Helper

Join our team at Loch of Strathbeg to help deliver fun, hands-on bushcraft and outdoor conservation skills sessions for young people between 14 and 18 years old. Volunteers will support events during school holidays, helping to inspire confidence and a love of nature through practical activities.

What we’re looking for:

Enthusiasm for working with young people outdoors
Confidence or interest in bushcraft and nature-based skills
Willingness to undergo PVG check (required)

Whether you're experienced in fire lighting, wildlife and plant identification, tool use including knives, loppers and bow saws, or just keen to learn, this is a great opportunity to make a difference and enjoy time in a beautiful nature reserve. As part of the RSPB's aim to connect as many children as possible to nature, we're looking for volunteers to help deliver bushcraft & nature skills sessions to young people at Loch of Strathbeg, during the school holidays.

Beginning in Spring 2026, volunteers will help support the delivery of nature sessions, helping to inspire young people to connect and take action for nature. The sessions are fun and interactive, and allow plenty of opportunities for first-hand experiences of nature.

Full training and support will be provided, but we are ideally looking for volunteers with the following attributes:

Enthusiasm, with the ability to communicate your passion for the natural world to help connect young people with nature.
Some experience of working with young people. (All volunteers will require a PVG and a reference who can vouch for their suitability to work with under 18s.)
An interest in wildlife and some knowledge of conservation and the natural environment.
Some previous knowledge of bushcraft or similar tool use and nature identification, or willingness to learn, with the confidence to supervise young people in learning these skills.
Confidence to positively represent the RSPB

This is a highly rewarding role offering the opportunity to make a real impact for children and for nature.

This role is suitable for under 18’s.
