Volunteer Reception Triage (Front Desk)

Musselburgh CAB is a local charity but part of a national network including 59 Citizens Advice Bureaux across Scotland and Citizens Advice Scotland the charity that represents and supports our association at a national level.

We are a small friendly team of over 25 staff and volunteers working within The Fisherrow Centre and across the wider community at various outreaches.

We provide free, independent, impartial and confidential advice to local people, promote awareness of people’s rights and entitlements and campaign for improvement when rules and regulations impact some people unfairly. We could not do this without our volunteers, their contributions ensure that we can provide our advice services and that we can conduct our campaigning work effectively.

The Reception Triage is the first point of contact within the bureau for our clients; they are part of our advice team but are not advisers. The Reception Triage will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of our Reception area, welcoming our clients and ensuring they receive excellent customer service from the moment they step into our bureau. They take steps to ensure that clients’ enquiries are managed effectively and record enough client information to allow the appropriate follow-up advice to be provided. Where additional support for the client might be available, they signpost to other local and national services.

This role is primarily focused on face-to-face interaction with clients with limited telephone communication. As we cannot predict the number of clients attending our bureau in person volunteers should expect some quiet periods in this role.
