Board Member

PAS is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.
We provide an independent, highly skilled advocacy service to all patients in The State Hospital. The service works within the hospital and promotes patients within this specialised forensic mental health setting as individuals. We aim to support each patient to have their views respected and their voices heard. Empowering patients to be fully informed and involved in decisions regarding their care and treatment.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the board of the Patients’ Advocacy Service, based in The State Hospital. We are particularly seeking individuals with experience in the following fields of practice:
· Finance
· Funding/fundraising
· Marketing & Communications
· Health and Social Care
We welcome applications from all individuals, including those with lived experience. Support and training is provided to all board members who join the organisation.
Responsibilities
We are looking to recruit new Board members to participate in the governance and achievement of the strategic objectives of the organisation. We require commitment to the following:
· Attend 6 Board meeting per year + AGM and development/strategy sessions
· Ability to attend both online and in-person (onsite at The State Hospital)
· To always act in the best interests of PAS
· Setting strategy and evaluating the achievements of the service.
· Ensure good financial stewardship
· Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with the board, staff team and wider NHS team.
· Ensure that PAS is compliant with its constitution, articles of association and all relevant legislation.

Experience required

A willingness to learn and to lead our organisation to ensure good governance, the best skill required is to be a good listener.

Travel details

Car parking is available on site. It is a challenging area to get to via public transport, we would advise looking up our location (ML11 8RP) to see how effective public transport would be for you.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses are paid for in-person requirements paid in the calander month submitted.

Taster

A chat is arranged with a current board member for you to ask any questions and to hear first hand what the role entails. Prior to onboarding, you will have the opportunity to attend the closed portion of a board meeting to see what it is about and how suitable the role would be for you.

Minimum age: 18

A PVG certificate will be required which will be handled by PAS.

Board meetings currently take place on a Monday morning from 10-12 every other month hybrid. We are currently in discussions about re-scheduling the times and days of meetings so if you are interested in being a part of PAS feel free to reach out and we may be able to accommodate your requirements.
