Foodbank Delivery Team Members

Volunteering details

This is an opportunity to join our team of volunteers who assemble and deliver food packages to clients that have been referred to us. Most of our volunteers work in pairs every few weeks, for a week at a time.
Duns Food Bank operates out of 15, Murray St, Duns. Delivery Team members ensure that anyone referred to us for food support receives the help they need. They need to be reliable, fit enough to carry shopping bags, have a mobile phone and have access to a vehicle. They also need to be good communicators as they are the first point of contact clients have with the Food Bank. We only deliver food to people who have been referred to us from recognised agencies.
Main Tasks
Referrals
Referrals arrive at the Food Bank email address. We aim to deliver anything that comes in before 3.30pm on the same day.
Contacting clients
As referrals come in, the team member phones the client and checks the details on the referral form with them.
We respond to the email from the agency to confirm we have seen it and will deliver that day (if received before 3.30pm) or the following day.
Preparing the food parcel
There is a comprehensive list of what goes into each parcel depending on size of household. The team member puts these items together, bearing in mind the client’s preferences where possible.
Making deliveries
When arriving at the client’s home we do not, except in the most exceptional circumstances, enter the premises. We hand everything over at the door. Once delivery finished, we email the referral agency to confirm the delivery has been made.

Driving skills and access to a vehicle are an advantage. Good communication skills. Average level of fitness. Full training will be given.
