Purpose of the role
Could you make a positive difference to a mother caring for her baby or children by offering your time, support and understanding?
Aberlour supports families who are experiencing difficulty, trauma or disadvantage. Many new mums are trying to care for their baby while also managing stress, isolation, mental health challenges or lack of support.
Our Befrienders offer encouragement, emotional support and time to talk. You will build a trusting relationship with a mum and her children, helping her feel more confident, less alone and more supported in her parenting journey.
What will I be doing?
• Spending regular time with a mum and her children/young people
• Offering emotional support and listening
• Helping mum feel confident and less isolated
• Supporting during difficult moments
• Sharing activities like walks, playgroups or baby-friendly activities
• Attending monthly group sessions
• Keeping a short diary after visits
• Contributing to support plans

Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
• Volunteers must be 18+
• PVG membership required
• References required
Frequency & commitment
Time commitment • A few hours per week/fortnight • 8/10 Weekly Supervision meetings • Attendance at Aberlour training • Minimum 6 month commitment
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
