HERITAGE VOLUNTEER

Are you passionate about local history, would you like to learn more about Springburn’s rich heritage? Volunteer at the Springburn Heritage Project, hosted by Spirit of Springburn.
At the heart of the project is our bi-weekly display in Springburn Shopping Centre, where our volunteers get to chat to the public about photographs and objects from old Springburn. This is an exciting time for our project as we begin to catalogue and rethink our collection. We are working with Glasgow Life community artists to create a Springburn Heritage Health Walk, which we will launch at Springburn Community Street Festival on 29th August. We are planning a visit to the Mitchell Library’s archive to investigate the catalogue from the former Springburn Museum.
Who are we?
Spirit of Springburn is a Community Development Trust working to empower the residents of Springburn to enact positive change in our community. At our core is the Community Hub in Springburn Shopping Centre, which hosts our Heritage Project, Community Food services, and offer signposting and advice. We also hold events regularly, from tea parties in the Shopping Centre, to the Springburn Community Street Festival. As a Spirit of Springburn volunteer, you’ll be part of a friendly, diverse and motivated team, dedicated to strengthening community.
Examples of tasks you might do:
Create captions for items from our collection
Design and create new displays
Engage with the public at our bi-weekly display and special events
Set up and take down display boards & tables
Hours:
The Heritage Display runs Tuesdays & Thursdays from 11am-2pm. Heritage volunteers would be needed from 10:45am-2:15pm.
You will also have the opportunity to volunteer at our events, like the Heritage Tea Party on Thursday 30th July, and the Springburn Community Street Festival on Saturday 29th August.
