We are looking for authentic and compelling communicators to help with the delivery and facilitation of six week self management workshops in the Scottish Borders.
As a volunteer facilitator, you will help create a welcoming and inclusive group environment, using clear communication and facilitation skills. This role would suit someone with experience delivering in person training or similar group work, who enjoys building rapport, encouraging participation, and supporting individuals with varying needs and abilities.

What you will be doing:
Support a CHSS colleague in the delivery and facilitation of group education sessions and encourage health related discussion between individuals in the group, enhancing a peer support approach to support and learning.
Using suitable tools to support a variety of learning styles, including visual aids.
Empowering and enabling individuals to make sustainable behaviour changes by motivating and increasing confidence during the change process.
Embracing a non-judgemental, supportive approach to enable individuals to achieve their goal(s).
Attending (in person or virtual) regular support and development sessions with your Volunteer Line Manager.

Commitment required:
Two blocks of workshops per year, with each block consisting of one four hour session per week over six weeks. The workshops are held on the same day each week, with flexibility on which day.
Workshops may be delivered at different locations, so the ability to travel independently would be an advantage.
Our first workshop will be delivered at the Heart of Hawick centre, with other locations across the Scottish Borders to be confirmed.

Lived experience is advantageous but not essential.
Travel details
Due to the nature of the Supported Self Management Volunteer Facilitator role, some local travel may be necessary as workshops may be delivered at different locations. The ability to travel independently would be an advantage. All travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with our Expenses policy.

At CHSS we believe no volunteer should be out of pocket whilst volunteering for us. We are committed to reimbursing all out-of-pocket expenses (including travel) in line with our Expenses policy, and supporting all volunteers to submit their claims through our processes.

Safeguarding Adults (L2) E-Learning
Conditions Awareness training on all four of our conditions (Chest, Heart, Stroke and Long Covid)
Optional training modules to supplement these required modules are available.
Taster
Whenever possible, role shadowing is offered to applicants who have completed a successful interview. For more information on role shadowing, please contact the CHSS Volunteering team.
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
You must be age 18.

It is important for you as well as for CHSS that you receive regular opportunities to reflect on your volunteering contribution. Therefore, following your induction, you will receive regular support in line with your role. Support and development meetings are an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with your volunteer line manager on health and wellbeing and how CHSS can support you in your volunteering role. Your volunteer line manager will provide support for ongoing learning and development within your role, through informal learning opportunities, progression to another or additional role or perhaps joining the Volunteering Strategy Group.
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
