BSLE Non-Executive Director

Who are we?
Borders Sport and Leisure Enterprises (BSLE) (SC244374) is the trading subsidiary of Live Borders, a registered charity (SC034227), and which supports the charitable goals and endeavours of the Trust. The commercial activities such as cafes, cinema and retail which we undertake are accounted for within BSLE.
You will play an important part in leading and governing the company, working with like-minded people who have a passion for our values and are fully committed to this leadership role.
Ideally you will have knowledge of Live Borders services across the Scottish Borders and Live Borders services (as a user).
The role
This unpaid non-executive role is an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of those living in and visiting the Scottish Borders by supporting the commercial trading arm of the Live Borders charitable trust.
The successful candidate will be expected to attend two board meetings per year with an additional AGM, and contribute to decision making and governance processes.
Our ideal candidate will currently have experience of one of the following professional disciplines:
• Hospitality
• Finance & Accountancy
• Business Development
• Governance
• Marketing and Commercial Development
• Performance, Scrutiny and Review

Experience required

Ideally the candidate will have experience of:
• Working as a Board Member/Trustee and /or company Director
• Working in commerce and business
• Working with Charity Boards or committees as a member or advisor
• Live Borders services (as a user)
With experience either:
• The legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of being a non-executive director
• Charitable and company law and the role of a Border Member/Trustee
• Effective business management
• Financial planning and monitoring
And:
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, non-verbal and listening)
• Willingness to devote additional time and effort to the role as required
• Excellent business acumen, leadership and advocacy
• Good independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the organisation and external environment
• Balancing tact and diplomacy with willingness to challenge and constructively criticise

Support
Training details

Volunteers will receive a short induction to introduce them to the role. Live Borders officers will provide ongoing volunteer support.
