I have really enjoyed volunteering with CHAS. I had taken a short career break and I wanted to do something constructive with my experiences in Technology and Data and help contribute to a good cause. My aim was to build my experiences, increase my network, keep my brain engaged and feel like I was making a difference and CHAS have helped me do this. My professional background is in large, multi-national commercial organisations and it has been really interesting to me to understand the similarities and differences between those and charity such as CHAS, which is useful in career and retirement planning.
I have really enjoyed spending time talking with CHAS colleagues, getting to know what they do and how data and reporting can support them in delivering for CHAS and the families they support. Everyone has been so welcoming and willing to engage, which is not always the case for data conversations!
I was not sure if this type of volunteering (e.g. in corporate services, focused on a problem, fixed time set) would add value, and it seems to have made a difference. I will now actively look for more opportunities to do this type of work in addition to more traditional volunteering engagements.
