Passing the Baton Befriender

Befriending can make a huge impact in the lives of people who are at risk of homelessness or moving into new settled accommodation. You can help an individual in Edinburgh reconnect back into the community by taking them out and introducing them to social groups and activities in their area.

Experience required

We are looking for volunteers who:
Have integrity and are reliable.
Are sociable and have an approachable manner.
Have good time management and organisational skills.
Are able to operate under the guidance and support of Passing the Baton staff.
Are of Christian faith, rooted in a Christian community.

Travel details

Due to the ongoing pandemic, many befriender meetings are happening online via Zoom. If, however, you and your befriendee are able to meet in person, please ensure that it is a communal, public space such as a cafe

Travel expenses

Regular volunteers are entitled to claim up to £3.60 per day for travel expenses (£4.50 if multiple buses are required) and up to £3 per day for lunch expenses, providing that they volunteer for 4 hours or more on that day, and that they present their manager/supervisor with the valid receipts.
