Volunteer Peer Supporters

A Peer supporter at LATNEM is a mum with lived experience of mental ill health who wants to share her own journey as a path finder, giving hope to others. A mum or birthing person with a passion for helping others.

The role involves preparing the space before a meeting and tidying up afterwards. You would help to prepare refreshments and make our service users feel welcome.

You would join the meeting as a mum with lived experience of mental ill health and encourage conversation, build supportive and respectful relationships with members, supporting others using the personal experience and confidence you have gained having overcome similar challenges.

You would be able to talk openly and honestly about your experiences, demonstrating that mental ill health is nothing to be ashamed of.

You would assist people to identify their own recovery goals, providing information and support to family and friends of members where required and signposting members to professional services, other 3rd Sector support.

Excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. Peer supporters will be offered the opportunity to complete their Mental Health First Aid as well as other relevant training, subject to a commitment of volunteering time.

Our Aberdeen meeting is held at the community centre in Bucksburn on a Thursday evening and Friday morning. All help during any of these times is greatly appreciated and makes a real difference.
