Clan looking for volunteers in Aberdeen to support people impacted by cancer
Leading north-east cancer charity, Clan Cancer Support is appealing for volunteers across Aberdeen to support local people impacted by cancer.
The charity is currently seeking volunteers to offer its vital listening and support service which enables people impacted by a diagnosis to speak to someone about their cancer journey.
The opportunities are based at Clan House in Aberdeen and the charity’s city outreach programmes in Tillydrone, Kincorth and Middlefield.
The charity is also looking for volunteers to support its regular Monday walking group which takes place weekly from Clan House. Further support is required on a Saturday in the charity’s Rosemount shop.
No experience is required for any of the advertised opportunities with all training provided by the charity. Successful applicants will be invited to attend a two-day training course in Aberdeen ahead of taking on their new voluntary positions.
Pamela Fenton, Clan Volunteer Co-ordinator said: “You don’t need to be a cancer expert to be a volunteer with Clan. You do need to be a good listener and to give your time. In return you’ll get training and the opportunity to play an important role in your local cancer support charity.
“The benefits of volunteering can be felt by the charity and the volunteer - volunteering can provide work experience, new friendships and the opportunity to develop new skills which can enrich your working and personal life.”
Clan provides emotional and physical support for people of all ages who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis with the charity providing 1,370 drop-in appointments to people across Aberdeen in the last year and welcoming 422 new clients.
Pamela added: “Volunteers play a crucial role in everything we do at Clan and we are indebted to them. Their dedication enables us to provide first class support services to local people impacted by a cancer diagnosis.”
