Carers of East Lothian

Creative wellbeing volunteers should have a creative skill of their own and an understanding of how engaging with
creativity can support positive wellbeing and reduce stress. They will be keen to share their creative skill with others.
The Volunteer and Training Coordinator at Carers of East Lothian will support them by organising an opportunity
to deliver a workshop introducing carers to the skill. A wide variety of skills could be introduced to carers, but could
include: art, dance, drama, cooking, baking, yoga, writing, needlework, photography, pottery, knitting, music, holistic
therapies, beauty.
Carers of East Lothian will support the volunteer to identify a suitable venue, source resources, provide
administrative support, advertise and promote the session, conduct risk assessments and support the facilitation of
the session.
Volunteers could provide a one of session, but it may be more suitable to run multiple sessions. If interest is
high, volunteers may be invited to run further sessions in the future.
Experience required
Creative wellbeing volunteers should have a creative skill & recognise that engaging with creativity
can support wellbeing and reduce stress.
Previous experience of group facilitation/ teaching is beneficial, but not essential. May suit
someone who is training in a specific creative skill.
This opportunity is working with a variety of people from different backgrounds and different caring
roles. Flexibility, empathy and warmth are essential.
Travel details
Volunteers will have access to the CoEL offices at East Lothian Community Hospital,
Haddington and a suitable space will be identified by the volunteer and the Volunteer and Training Coordinator.
Accessibility needs will be considered when sourcing an appropriate venue.
Travel expenses
Volunteers will be reimbursed on a monthly basis for agreed expenses. For any larger outlays, payment
will be organised by CoEL.
Support
Training details
Supervision with Volunteer and Training Coordinator.
Opportunities to meet with and learn from other volunteers.
If the volunteer begins to run regular sessions with CoEL, they will be provided with ongoing training and development opportunities.
Taster
A minimum of 1 2-4 hour session in a 6 month period plus the planning time that would be involved with a
session.
Restrictions
Minimum age: 18
Frequency & commitment
A minimum of 1 2-4 hour session in a 6 month period plus the planning time that would be involved with a session.
Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
