Branch Secretary - Argyll & Bute

Our branches are an integral part of SSAFA’s success. With a visible presence in local communities, they raise vital awareness of and funds for our work. They also provide a supportive and enriching community for our volunteers. As branch secretary you will work closely with the Branch Chair, developing and delivering branch vision and plans, coordinating events and activities and communicating with branch volunteers and other stakeholders to build a successful and supportive branch community.
What you will be doing
Working closely with the Branch Chair to develop and deliver branch vision and plans
Act as a point of contact in all matters of the branch
Support new volunteers into the branch ensuring that they complete mandatory training and provide a local branch induction
Communication with branch volunteers, ensuring people are kept up to date with news, events and activities and sharing success
Providing timely reports and information on branch activity and outputs, maintaining regular contact with regional staff and sharing good practice and challenges
Co-ordinating and attending a programme of meetings including branch meetings, networking events and AGMs
Creating a welcoming, inclusive and diverse environment to ensure all volunteers feel valued and supported
Coordinating the delegation of tasks amongst the branch team and providing support as appropriate
Generating new ideas to engage and raise awareness in the local community

Experience required

Friendly and approachable people of any age (18+) with some experience of coordinating people and admin
• good written and spoken English
• ability to be respectful and non-judgemental with clients, their family, other agencies and SSAFA colleagues
• ability to send and receive emails – you will receive your own SSAFA email address
• ability to coordinate a team of people volunteering
Good IT skills

Travel details

Based from home with some travel to meetings but mainly online and over teams.

Travel expenses

We cover all travel, accommodation for training if required and subsistence. Car travel at 45 p per mile.

Training details

• On-line training modules to complete at home, so you are up to date on how to keep clients, their families and personal information safe.
• Access to a range of e-learning courses as well as local opportunities to keep your training up to date.
• Support from the Chair of the branch
• Support from the Volunteer Development Manager (per region)
• Access to the Welfare Team and Volunteer Support Team based at our central office
• Reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses
