Telephone Volunteer

The Food Train is an award-winning charity providing services to older people who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability.
Join us a 'Phone Volunteer' and help older people get their groceries by providing support to our members with their weekly shopping lists.
What you’ll do:
• Make friendly phone calls to check in and help create detailed shopping lists for our members who can no longer access their supermarkets
• Bring a smile to someone’s day with just a few minutes chatting and checking in on our members
• Helping with snack and meal suggestions
• Working with a small team of volunteers and staff (homebased volunteering may be an option)

Experience required

Volunteers should be patient, confident and able to communicate clearly over the telephone. Needs to be able to add shopping lists into a simple spreadsheet, and have an email address to communicate with the Falkirk office.

Travel details

Volunteer can do this role at home or at the Food Train office, Ironworks Business Centre Castle Laurie Works, Bankside, Falkirk FK2 7XE.

Support
Training details

We have extensive written call guides and the role will be talked through in detail during initial conversations with new volunteers. New volunteers are welcome to shadow someone in the office before making some calls of their own. There are plenty of staff and volunteers in the team who are always supportive and friendly. We have regular meetings with our team of volunteers and share training/team building opportunities, as well as running social events a few times a year to say thank you to our volunteers.
