Library Team - Glasgow Tool Library

Glasgow Tool Library aims to build a sustainable and inclusive alternative to consumerism through a resource library service. Our library works like a regular library, but instead of books, people can access an extensive selection of quality tools and equipment for their homes, gardens, and hobbies.

We are looking for volunteers to support the running of our library service. The role provides an opportunity for you to help share equipment and tools with the people of Glasgow. This involves public-facing activities as well as non-public-facing administrative tasks, such as cataloging equipment.

Core Responsibilities

Customer Service:
> Preparing equipment for collection and checking items when returned
> Assist members with borrowing and returning tools
> Provide information about membership benefits and our service guidelines
> Offer guidance and answer queries to ensure a positive member experience

Inventory Management:
> Cataloguing equipment onto our sharing software
> Keep the tool inventory organised, clean, and accessible
> Check tools for functionality and cleanliness
> Log tool usage and track missing, damaged, or overdue items
> Putting surplus items up for sale on Gumtree

Joining GTL allows you to shape its direction. Volunteers meet regularly for a catch up and to discuss projects and ideas. We hold annual volunteer assemblies and community build projects, giving you the opportunity to use your skills, or learn new ones, to help different groups or organisations in Glasgow.

Commitment

We look for people to commit to a minimum of 8-12 hours a month, on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays with additional days throughout the year for events.

Weekly Library Shifts
> Mondays: 12pm – 4 pm / 4 pm – 8 pm - non-public facing
> Wednesdays: 2pm – 5:30 / 5 pm – 8:30 pm - public facing
> Fridays: 10 am - 2 pm / 2 pm - 6 pm
> Saturday: 10am - 1pm / 1pm - 4pm

Expectations
> All volunteers must attend an induction and follow-up training
> Must be able to commit to the minimum hours
