Volunteer Driver

We need local volunteer drivers for our vehicles, to help the elderly and disabled get out and about. It might be a shopping trip, visit to family and friends, outings, transport to clubs/meetings, hospital visits and any other long or short journeys as required.

We give all our drivers MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training which is recognised throughout the UK as the standard course for volunteer drivers involved in community transport. Training includes loading and strapping in of wheelchairs.

Travel expenses are paid at 40p per mile.

Experience required

Clean driving licence and aged between 25 and 70. Drivers must complete a familiarisation test for the vehicles, be happy and outgoing, willing to help with the movement of wheelchairs on and off the vehicles.

Travel details

Teviot Wheels has 4 vehicles, one each based at locations in Jedburgh and Kelso, 2 (including a 15 seater minibus) are based in Hawick. Travel is undertaken throughout the Borders and could be further afield.
