Citizen Advocates

Equal Voice is looking for volunteers who might have an hour or so a week to give to change the life of a vulnerable person in Equal Voice brings together local volunteers and vulnerable people.

Are you passionate about making a real difference in a vulnerable adult’s life? Becoming a Citizen Advocate is your chance to stand alongside an individual who may need a stronger voice in their community. It’s not about being an expert - it’s about being a genuine friend, a good listener and a champion for fairness. You’ll help someone feel seen, heard, and valued, while discovering new perspectives and connections yourself. Whether it’s supporting someone through a challenge or meeting up for a chat. Simply sharing a coffee, enjoying a catch-up that reduces loneliness and builds confidence can make such an incredible difference.

No special qualifications are needed and there’s no set amount of time required – it’s all about what you can offer – just an open mind and a caring heart. Make your voice count by helping someone else find theirs.

Experience required

The most important qualities for a volunteer Citizen Advocate are empathy, reliability, and a genuine interest in people and their individual needs. They don’t need any special qualifications – just a kind heart, be a good listener and have the confidence to give a voice to a vulnerable person who is not being listened to or cannot speak up for themselves.

Travel details

The opportunity takes place in the Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, and Leven areas, supporting people within their own communities. Most connections happen locally – whether that’s meeting for a coffee, going for a walk, or catching up somewhere nearby. This is a mutual arrangement between the Citizen Advocate and their Partner.

Volunteers can choose to be matched with someone close to home, and travel be kept to a minimum as the organisation aim to match their Advocate with someone in their local area. The organisation will work with you to make sure everything feels easy and accessible.

Travel expenses

Expenses reimbursed on a fortnightly/monthly basis.
