Future Choices Aberdeen
- VO54080
We have exciting opportunities for volunteers to come along and assist disabled members with various activities. This includes volunteer drivers and escorting disabled people if out on trips etc.
The charity is seeking enthusiastic minibus drivers to join their team and ensure that members are transported safely to their weekly sessions at Inchgarth Community Centre.
Future Choices, which meets every Tuesday, provides a vital lifeline for older people and people with additional needs. However, the centre’s location presents a significant obstacle – a very steep hill and unsuitable terrain that make public transport and walking impossible for many members. The charity relies on its volunteer drivers to overcome these challenges.
The role of a Future Choices driver goes beyond simple transportation. Drivers often assist members with small but essential errands on the journey home – like visiting loved ones in the hospital or nipping to an ATM. These little tasks can make our members’ week easier.
Volunteer driver Paul said: “Driving and helping out with the members at Future Choices is probably the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. For some members, coming to our club is the only time they leave the house in the week, and it is a joy to see the boost they get from coming along. Helping to break down the challenge of social inclusion really makes a huge difference to our members. It’s a delight to put something back into the community.”
Vice Chairman Ean Watt said: “Our minibuses aren’t just vehicles; they are the only way our members can access the community. In August 2025, a significant health issue left me housebound for weeks. Because of this, my volunteering efforts in the city had to stop. When I was fit to go out of the house with assistance, the fact that the future choices had accessible minibuses and drivers allowed me to get some purpose back in my week by volunteering.”
Future Choices invites anyone with a passion for driving and a desire to tackle social isolation in Aberdeen to get in touch. By giving just one day a week, volunteers can transform a member’s world from four walls at home to a vibrant day of friendship and community.
The charity is currently looking for drivers who hold a D1 driver’s license, are aged between 30 to 70 years old, and are available on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. To maintain their high standard of service, the charity’s lead driver provides comprehensive training.
