*A Lifeline for Those Who Need It Most
Shallion Support isn’t just about volunteering—it’s about changing lives. Every day, people with M.E., Lupus, Long Covid, Fibromyalgia, PTSD (to name a few!), wake up exhausted before their day has even begun. Simple tasks become overwhelming, and many are left isolated at home with little or no support.
Four years ago, my daughter was diagnosed with M.E. I was her anchor, the one who helped her through the exhaustion, the brain fog, and the frustration of not being able to do what she once could. But as I walked this journey with her, I realized something—not everyone has someone to lean on. Many people face these conditions alone, or with loved ones who simply have to work and can't always be there.
*Shallion Support: Breaking New Ground
This is where Shallion Support comes in. We are pioneering a new kind of home-based support—a service that fills the gap for those who need practical help and company but have no one to turn to. No other service like this exists in Scotland.
To make this happen, we need volunteers from all walks of life. We’re not just looking for home support workers—we also need:
• Personal Assistants
• HR & Recruitment Support
• IT & Admin Volunteers
• Childcare & Family Support
• Marketing & Social Media Assistants
• Fundraising & Community Outreach Helpers
This is a social enterprise—we are committed to making this service accessible to those who need it most, regardless of their financial situation. We’ve already received funding from Aberdeen Council and support from FirstPort and Business Gateway and we are determined to see this service grow across Scotland.
*Why Volunteer? Because It Matters.
By volunteering with Shallion Support, you’ll be part of something new, something meaningful. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or want to get more deeply involved, your skills and time will have a direct impact on people who desperately need support.
• Help someone with an autoimmune condition feel less alone.
• Be the support they wish they had.
• Make an impact in a way that no other service is currently offering.
This is your chance to be part of something genuinely life-changing. Let’s make sure no one facing an autoimmune condition feels forgotten.
*Join us. Together, we can make a real difference. Please contact Sarah Hoskin, Managing Director at email hello@shallion.co.uk or telephone 07845401380 for further details about how you can help.
Experience required
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, no prior experience required, just a compassionate heart and a willingness to help. Key skills and attitudes include empathy, reliability and good communication. Practical skills such as IT support, admin, HR, marketing, or experience in home support are a bonus but not essential. Training and guidance will be provided. If you’re passionate about making a real difference for those with autoimmune conditions, we’d love to have you on board!
Travel details
The opportunity takes place across Scotland, with a focus on supporting individuals in their own homes and communities. Volunteers can choose to help locally or remotely, depending on the role.
For in-home support, we match volunteers with clients in their area. Travel costs can be covered where needed, and we encourage the use of public transport—students can use their free bus passes to minimize expenses.
Remote opportunities, such as admin, HR, and marketing, can be done from anywhere in Scotland. Flexibility is key, and we work with volunteers to find a role that suits their location and availability.
