Intandem Mentor

As an Intandem mentor you will make a difference to the life of a young person, providing a positive role model and supporting access to hobbies and interests. The ability to be consistent, non-judgemental, supportive, fun and understanding is key to success in this role. Full initial training will be provided along with ongoing support to ensure the best possible outcomes. We look for a regular commitment of around 2-3 hours per week over a minimum 12 month period. A PGV scheme record check will be required (no cost involved).

Experience required

No formal qualifications are required but you will need the ability to show empathy, be non-judgemental. You will be able to reflect on your own life experiences and learning as well as demonstrate the motivation to see children and young people succeed in life.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses are covered as are all pre-agreed expenses incurred when taking part in activities with the young person. Pre-purchased tickets can be provided where necessary.

Support
Training details

We will provide comprehensive initial training via a combination of face to face and online modules, delivered over sessions. These will cover areas such as child protection, safeguarding, mentoring boundaries, health & safety and working with young people. Opportunities for further continuous personal development are also available helping you develop a range of transferrable skills.

Frequency & commitment
2 to 3 hours per week (including your travel time) with a minimum commitment of 1 year Mentoring is generally provided during evenings & weekends during school term time (at times agreed between the mentor and young person) and ideally continues throughout school holidays.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
