Home-Start Volunteer Befriender

Attend our preparation course to set you on your way to becoming a volunteer befriender!
Volunteer Befrienders visit a family they are matched to every week and offer practical and emotional support. Families may be experiencing difficulties due to a large number of reasons including, parental mental health and perinatal illness, isolation, money issues, disability and illness, multiple birth, family conflict and many any other issues. We ask
volunteers to commit to at least 1 year as we will normally support a family for that length of time.
Volunteers get an enormous amount out of belonging to Home-Start East Lothian! They gain worthwhile experience, feel a sense of purpose, are valued as part of a team, receive expenses, regular support and supervision, ongoing training and social gatherings.
Many volunteers have included their volunteering experience in their CV's and this has been a stepping stone to further opportunities and employment.
