Self-Harm Live Chat Volunteer

The Self-Harm Network Live Chat Volunteer will utilise their unique understanding gained from
managing their own mental health to assist staff in the smooth delivery of our Self-Harm support web chat

Experience required

Good communication and excellent listening skills
Open to supporting a diverse range of people with a non-judgemental approach
A kind, caring and empathetic person with a positive and hopeful attitude
Reliable and respectful
Ability to reflect and build on experience and ask for additional support if required
Confidence in working as part of a team

No travel needed, this is a home-based volunteering

Support
Training details

All volunteers attend three trainings before starting their volunteering role: Self-Harm Awareness Training (3 hours), Text-based Support Training (Full Day) and Escalation & Safeguarding training (3 hours), plus induction training. We also offer ongoing training, and support.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
You don’t need to have any previous experience to volunteer; just a positive attitude and a desire to promote good mental health and wellbeing for people who self-harm.

Frequency & commitment
Live-Chat is open 6.00 pm - 10.00 pm, 7 days a week. Volunteers support with a 4 hour-shift, once a week. Ideally, we would request a commitment of 9 months.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
