The Grampian Inclusive Cycling Bothies is a project funded by the national lottery fund, aiming to make cycling more accessible and inclusive within Grampian. We run regular sessions in Aberdeen, Peterhead, Alford and Banff where adapted bikes are available to use.
The bothies aim to be inclusive for everyone, allowing everybody the opportunity to have a go at cycling and experience a new form of exercise they possibly wouldn't have considered before. Improving access to cycling will promote all the health, wellbeing and environmental benefits of cycling to more people across each community. By having adapted bikes stored at bothies throughout Grampian, access to adapted bikes will be closer to the people within each community who need to use them.
The Aberdeen bothy takes place at the Aberdeen Cycle Hub @ Seaton, next to Mrs Murray's Cat and Dog home. Sessions are run on a Tuesday for 2 hours from 10-12, as well as a Wednesday from 13:30 - 14:30.
We are always looking for new volunteers at cycling sessions. This could involve:
• General assistance in getting cycles in and out of the storage containers and on to the track
• Check over bikes (training on each bike will be given)
• ‘Meet & Greet’ as participants arrive for their session
• Give assistance to those getting on the bikes and putting on helmets if required
• Accompanying riders around the track to encourage them
No prior knowledge or experience is required, and any training will be provided.
All help makes a real difference and is greatly appreciated. For more information please contact Beth Douglas, Grampian Inclusive Cycling Bothies Project Activator at email: bdouglas@sportaberdeen.co.uk
