Trustee Job Description: East Kilbride Community Association Trust

Role Title: Trustee
Reports to: Chairman & Chief Executive and, Board of Trustees
Time Commitment: Flexible, approximately 4-6 hours per month, including meetings and occasional community events

Overview:
The East Kilbride Community Association Trust is a forward-thinking organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life across East Kilbride. As a Trustee, you will help steer the Trust's vision, ensuring its sustainability and supporting the activities of its key subdivisions, including the Murray Neighbourhood Watch & Community Group (often referred to as the Murray Association). This role offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on local advocacy, community support, and neighbourhood initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:



  1. Governance and Oversight


Ensure the Trust operates in compliance with its constitution, legal obligations, and community objectives.


Uphold and promote good governance practices while safeguarding the Trust's resources and reputation.



  1. Strategic Leadership


Contribute to setting and reviewing the Trust’s long-term strategies and goals.


Support projects such as neighbourhood watch programmes, advocacy services, and assistance for vulnerable residents, particularly within subdivisions like the Murray Association.



  1. Financial Stewardship


Oversee the Trust's financial management, ensuring funds are allocated effectively and transparently.


Review budgets, grant applications, and financial reports to maintain financial health.



  1. Community Engagement


Represent the Trust in the community, acting as an ambassador to promote its mission and activities.


Engage with local residents, businesses, and other organisations to identify needs and opportunities for collaboration.



  1. Fundraising and Advocacy


Support fundraising initiatives, including grant applications, community events, and donor outreach.


Advocate for the interests of the East Kilbride community with local authorities and stakeholders.



  1. Teamwork and Development


Attend and actively participate in board meetings and strategy sessions.


Work collaboratively with other Trustees and volunteers to foster an inclusive, supportive environment.


Person Specification:


A strong commitment to the Trust's mission and values.


Willingness to dedicate time and effort to the role.


Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Strategic thinking and the ability to make informed, independent decisions.


Understanding of or willingness to learn about governance, finance, and compliance.


Experience in community engagement, advocacy, or fundraising (desirable but not essential).
