Volunteer Hospice Retail Shop Assistant

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is a registered Scottish charity that provides palliative care and support for people living in South Glasgow and East Renfrewshire. All of our services for patients, their families and carers are free. Our mission is to provide high quality, person-centred care for all those affected by life-limiting conditions.

At the heart of the fundraising activities that enable us to provide excellent patient and family care to the people of Glasgow, lie our 17 Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice shops.

Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is currently looking to fill volunteer roles/shifts in our Brand New Store, opening on Queen St, Glasgow.


Responsible to:
Shop Manager; Retail Area Manager; Volunteer Services Manager


Activities of the role:


To assist and serve customers, providing a service of the highest standard
Receive delivery of donations, ensuring gift aid and information is collated
To assist with processing stock, including sorting, pricing and hanging of donated items
Marketing and presenting merchandise in an attractive and presentable manner to ensure a positive image of the Hospice is maintained
To assist the Shop Manager in the rotation of stock with the charity’s other shops
If required, be involved with the till operation and handling of cash
Replenish and restock shelves when required
Sorting donated goods into saleable stock and items for recycling
To ensure that the shop premises are always clean and tidy
Respond to and resolve customer queries and complaints in person and by telephone
Always understanding the importance of confidentiality and maintaining high standards with regard to communicating information in a confidential manner.

Participation in regular meetings and any other opportunities will be advised when they occur

Experience required

Skills & Personal qualities:
Friendly and welcoming manner with excellent customer service skills
Cheerful nature, good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate confidently with the public
Are comfortable taking the initiative to approach people and offer assistance
Work effectively, both independently and as part of a team
Ability to recognise the importance of establishing a good rapport with staff
Good literacy and numerical skills and confident in cash handling
Willingness to undertake training which will help in your role
Smart and neat appearance in line with organisational standards

Travel details

All shops accessible by car or public transport. Parking will vary for each shop.

Taster

Every volunteer will receive an invite to attend orientation training before they start their new volunteer role. Training on the job and job shadowing are also provided.

Frequency & commitment
We do look for a certain amount of commitment from our volunteers. Normally volunteer shifts are between two and three hours once a week, once a fortnight or once a month. But come in and have a discussion with us about your time limits and we will see how best we can make use of your skills and time.
