Branch Chair (Ratho) Seagull Trust Cruises

Seagull Trust Cruises, a charity formed in 1978, run free canal cruises in Scotland for the elderly, disabled, and those with special needs. From 4 branches throughout Scotland (Ratho, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch & Inverness), we run around 2000 cruises per annum taking out about 20,000 passengers.
Our Ratho branch (just outside Edinburgh) runs 3 custom designed wide beam barges, all wheelchair accessible. We also operate our own dry dock which is made available to other canal users, producing important income for the charity.
The charity is 100% run by volunteers, with no paid staff. Each branch is totally autonomous, run by its own management and overseeing committee, comprising Chair, Vice chair, Treasurer & Secretary, plus boat convenors and lead skippers. The committee meets around 5 times per year.
Our current Chair is nearing the end of his 2 year term, creating a vacancy for someone with enthusiasm and drive to continue and build on the important contribution Seagull Trust makes to the health and well being of so many.
Our

Experience required

A background of volunteering & committee work is preferred. There is no need for previous involvement in canals or boating, although the position would suit someone with an interest in the Scottish Canal network. An interest in helping and assisting the elderly, infirm, and those with special needs would be ideal, although all our passengers are accompanied by their own carers.

Much of the day to day duties can be performed at home, although a regular presence at the Branch is expected. No travel expenses are paid by the charity to its volunteers.
