Trustee – Development and Marketing

Groam House Museum, a dynamic volunteer-led museum in Rosemarkie, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the Pictish and Celtic heritage of Easter Ross. Known for our renowned Rosemarkie Cross-slab and the George Bain Collection, we connect our local community and visitors with Scotland’s artistic and cultural legacy. To support the museum’s sustainability and ensure the care, enhancement, and accessibility of our collections, we are seeking a trustee with a strong background in museum collections care and curatorial practices.
Our mission is to inspire engagement, wonder, and enjoyment in the heritage of our local area, nurturing both cultural preservation and community creativity.
The Role:
The Development and Marketing trustee will lead efforts to strengthen the museum’s financial standing and visibility. This includes creating sponsorship programs, enhancing our digital and community engagement strategies, and exploring new revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities:
● Fundraising and Sponsorships: Develop and implement strategies for sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives to increase financial resilience.
● Marketing and Communications: Enhance the museum’s profile through digital marketing, social media, and community outreach, aiming to attract new audiences and increase engagement.
● Strategic Planning: Contribute to the museum’s strategic vision, focusing on long-term sustainability and brand presence within the heritage sector.
Who We Are Looking For:
We welcome applicants with experience in:
● Sponsorships, fundraising, or partnership development, particularly in heritage or cultural organisations.
● Marketing and communications, with skills in digital strategy, community outreach, or audience engagement.
● Strategic financial planning or project management.
Time Commitment:
● Board Meetings: Attend 6 meetings per year.
● Development Sub-Committee: Contribute approximately 1-2 half days per month.
Why Join Us?
● Shape the future of a community-centred museum by helping grow our audience and improve financial sustainability.
● Work with a dedicated team to create new opportunities for cultural engagement and financial growth.

Travel expenses

As a volunteer trustee, this is an unpaid role; however, we do offer reimbursement for reasonable expenses:
• Travel Reimbursement: For travel to and from the museum, we provide mileage reimbursement or public transport costs:
o If the journey is over 10 miles from your home, we reimburse standard mileage rates unless public transport is a suitable and accessible alternative.
o In cases where public transport is convenient, we reimburse the equivalent transport cost, even if you choose to drive. However, if public transport is impractical (e.g., bus schedules causing long delays), we reimburse mileage instead.
• Other Expenses: Other costs directly related to your trustee duties can be reimbursed with receipts or evidence.
We aim to ensure that financial constraints are not a barrier to participation in supporting Groam House Museum.
