Music at Paxton Trustees

Could you help us continue bringing quality live music to our under-served Borders region, and support the future of a world-class chamber music festival?

We are currently open to applications to join our Board of Trustees and are looking to appoint a maximum of two trustees to supplement our existing Board. We are especially keen to hear from those with a connection to the Scottish Borders and/or Northumberland.
Since 2006 Music at Paxton has presented an annual chamber music festival in the idyllic setting of Paxton House in the Scottish Borders, delivering exciting and diverse programmes of music performed by outstanding musicians. A key component in Scotland’s cultural calendar, it now enjoys national acclaim and attracts world-class musicians. Outreach to young people is an important element of our mission, including family concerts and the development of projects with local schools.

Our aim is to provide rewarding, inspiring and affordable musical experiences for audience and performers alike, bringing people together to share music that gives pleasure and broadens horizons. Classical music is at the heart of our activity, although we define ‘chamber music’ as a shared experience of great music in an intimate setting and informal ambience, and embrace folk, world and other musical styles in our programme

The Board of Trustees works in partnership with the Artistic Director and General Manager, supporting them as required, and is responsible for governance and strategy, ensuring the charity is administered effectively. It meets three times a year, with a mix of online and in-person meetings. Sub-groups meet on Zoom as required. Appointments are unremunerated and for an initial term of four years, which may be renewed for one further term. We offer reasonable travel expenses to support Trustees in carrying out their duties.
