Activities and Events Volunteer

Fancy helping at your local community centre, gaining skills and volunteering in a role tailored for you?

The Activities and Events Volunteer typically supports the Community Use team in delivering activities to people, as part of the local programme on offer.

The role is front-facing and may include engaging with individuals and groups (both children and adults) under the supervision of Community Use staff, as they lead and deliver activities.


The volunteer will:
• Abide by Fife Council policies and procedures
• Behave in a respectful manner, acting as a role model
• Help staff to set up equipment and areas for delivering activities and events
• Be part of planning and programming Community Use activities
• Get involved and/or facilitate activities
• Communicate well with both young people and adults
• Assist with collection of entry fees, where required
• Complete register/recording sheets, where required
• Attend relevant training as and when required
• Potentially help to serve drinks/snacks


Experience required

Community Use Activity Support Volunteers should possess the following skills and qualities: -
• Be approachable, friendly and encouraging
• Have good communication skills
• Display patience and good listening skills
• Have an ability to be discreet and be able to maintain confidentiality
• Treat learners with sensitivity and respect
• Be able to use their own initiative - but know when to ask for help when required
• Be open to taking directions
• Possess good basic IT skills

Travel expenses

Transport related costs will be calculated as follows: -


  • public transport costs up to the current cost of an East of Scotland DayRider Ticket

  • mileage costs @ 0.45p per mile - up to the current cost of an East of Scotland DayRider ticket.


Support
Training details

The volunteer will be given a site induction at the venue. They will be given training around the activities they are supporting and the duties required. There will be opportunity to tailor the role toward the volunteer’s skills and interests. Ongoing training to be offered as required and when available.
