Community Activities Group Volunteer

Purpose and Aims of the role

Would you like to support families to participate in group activities to reduce social isolation and build their skills and confidence? Could you spare a few hours on a regular basis? If the answer is yes, we are currently looking for volunteers who are interested in supporting the set-up and the running of community groups in rural areas. We are looking for volunteers with experience in a range of activities. This could include interests in music, arts, and crafts; cooking, sports and health and wellbeing skills which could improve the health and social wellbeing of Children & Families in Perth and Kinross.
What will I be doing? (Depending on your role)
• Supporting staff to set up groups within rural communities
• Assisting staff with the facilitation of community group activities
• Depending on the skill you can offer, you will use your skills to plan activities and projects
• Welcoming parents and children as they arrive and make them feel at ease.
• Supporting the parents/carers in their day-to-day interactions with their children.
• Encouraging and supporting people to join in with activities
• Supporting families to undertake new activities
• Helping families to have fun
• Building families confidence and self esteem
• Being a positive role model.

What skills can I bring to this role?
• A specific skill set in an activity
• A genuine interest in supporting children and families to thrive
• Experience of working with children and young people
• A knowledge of some of the issues affecting children, young people and families
• Ability to work well with children and young people
• Good communication and listening skills
• Experience with building confidence and self esteem
• Ability to encourage and motivate people to participate in activities.

When will I be needed?
• Groups will take place in the local community at various times, this could be during the day, after school and evenings or during school holidays. You would be able to support a group that would suit your availability.
• This will vary but it could be 2 hours a week/fortnight or monthly depending on the group and your own availability.

What support will I be given?
• Induction and child protection training
• Role specific training
• Expenses – all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed
• Supervision and support from your manager / coordinator


Additional Information
Due to Health and Safety requirements, you must be at least 18 years of age to undertake this volunteering role.


For all roles involving regulated work with children and/or protected adults, Aberlour will require the applicant to submit a PVG Scheme Record or a PVG Scheme Record Update application. This opportunity is subject to the completion of satisfactory references and successful registration on the PVG Scheme.
