Are you passionate about making a difference in young people’s lives? Do you enjoy being outdoors, getting stuck in, and sharing your skills? We are looking for a friendly, patient, and enthusiastic Volunteer Mentor to support young people in our vibrant community garden.
About the Role
Transform is a supported volunteering project designed for young people aged 14-20 years old who lack confidence and need a little bit of extra support to volunteer. The project aims to promote health, wellbeing together with the development of social and practical skills through gardening activities located in Dalkeith Country Park.
As a Volunteer Mentor, you’ll spend time in the garden alongside young people, encouraging them to get involved, try new things, and connect with nature. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help create a welcoming, supportive space that inspires confidence and curiosity. You don’t need to be a gardening expert — just someone who enjoys being outdoors, working as part of a team, and supporting young people to grow (plants and themselves!). If you’ve got basic DIY or woodwork skills, that’s a big plus too.
What You’ll Get:
· The chance to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives
· Opportunities to learn new skills and be part of a community
· Fresh air, great company, and the satisfaction of seeing things grow — plants, friendships, and confidence!
Experience required
A friendly and supportive nature
Patience and a willingness to work alongside young people and other adults.
A good sense of humour and a flexible approach — it’s not all mowing and weeding!
Enthusiasm for gardening, nature, or outdoor learning.
Bonus: skills in woodwork, DIY, or other hands-on crafts
Travel details
The garden is located at the Town Entrance Dalkeith Country Park, opposite St Mary’s Church.
