As a Beaver Leader you would organise and lead the meetings. It sounds like a big job, but a number of our members are running sections as it plays to their strengths and they really enjoy it. We have helped to put on some of the best events and activities. It has a lot of rewards, so is certainly worth considering! This vacancy is to provide exciting indoor and outdoor activities for girls and boys aged 6-8 years old.

Are you looking for that bit more out of life? Love working with young people and want to see them develop useful skills? This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Beaver Colony. We work with a great group of children from a range of backgrounds. We've got lots of plans for this year, and we'd love more people to get involved. You will be helping to provide exciting indoor, and some outdoor, activities for girls and boys aged 6-8 years old by following the Beaver Scout programme including games, skills and badge work. Also, preparing them to move onto the Cub Pack when the time comes. This is an exciting and varied position, that lets you get to the heart of Scouting activities in your community. Be prepared to make a difference!
The Section Leader manages and leads the operation of the Section, in particular, the planning and safe delivery of the Balanced Programme with the help of assistants, including Assistant Section Leaders, Section Assistants and Young Leaders. The role will suit someone with strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, who holds the Scout values of integrity, respect, care and belief. The ability to work as part of a team and to motivate others is also important. This requires a weekly commitment during term time, occasional commitment during the week for planning meetings and attend the Executive Committee (meets 4 times a year) and occasionally at weekends for events like camps.
This is a practical role leading a group of adults working as a team to support our youngest section, you may have experience of working with children or might be looking to gain some. You will be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Experience required

You will need:
The ability to work with other adults as part of a team. An acceptance of Scouting principles. Experience of the Scout movement is desirable but not essential as training is provided. Enthusiasm, energy and the confidence in working with children and taking the lead in running meetings. An interest in voluntary work with young people. To be a dedicated person and prepared to show commitment to the success of this Beaver Colony. You will need a good level of spoken English.

Training details

Induction varies per person and per role. Our training is award-winning. After spending time finding the right role for a new or existing volunteer, the first few months are spent providing information, meeting people, having a go and completing a training programme made up of mandatory, role specific and ongoing learning.
