Treasurer

Yetholm Community Shop Ltd is a community benefit society founded in 2020 with 200+ shareholders. It has an annual turnover c. £250,000, is open 7 days a week, and is run from recently refurbished premises by an almost full-time manager and a small team of paid part-time staff and volunteers, who provide shopping and other essential services to a rural community and seasonal visitors.

We are looking for an unpaid volunteer to join our friendly Management Committee and replace the current Treasurer who is shortly retiring after 5 years in office.

This volunteer would be someone with good business skills, computer-literate, familiar with Excel working – but not necessarily an (ex-) accounting professional.

The role will chiefly involve contributing to budget and cash-flow planning; management of banking procedures; liaison with the shop manager and with external accountants. EPOS and Xero are the main systems used. This remit can be adjusted in light of personal circumstances.

The shop also has a PO counter open 2 mornings a week. It operates as a separately embedded business, conducted by the shop’s PO-accredited staff under PO direction, so no familiarity with PO systems is required on the part of the Treasurer.

Much of the Treasurer’s work can be done remotely. Management Committee meetings are every 2 or 3 weeks, usually on Teams / Zoom.

Experience required

Business skills, computer-literate, familiarity with Excel and spreadsheets. Would suit a retired accountant or book keeper.
