Volunteer Mentors - Adult Mentoring

We are recruiting volunteer mentors with a kind and empathetic nature to support adults (18+) who are being supported in our short-term housing, supported accommodation and outreach programmes across the Greater Glasgow and South Lanarkshire areas. Our community mentoring programme encourages personal growth, social connection and sustainable integration within communities for the people we support.

As a volunteer mentor you will be fully trained by our team of Volunteer Coordinators who will get to know your passions and interests allowing you to be suitably matched with one of the adults that we support. We will provide guidance and support every step of the way.

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

-Develop good communication and working relationships with mentees, other mentors and Right There team members.

-Support mentees in the local community

-Provide appropriate levels of high-quality support to mentees.

-Accurately record matters relating to mentees and report as appropriate.

-Signpost and refer to other agencies as appropriate.

-Ensure you adopt a person-centred approach and participate in reflective practice.

Our values make us who we are and define our actions and behaviours every day. We expect volunteers to uphold and represent our organisation in a way that reflects our values and person-centred way of working.

Our volunteer mentors are expected to dedicate a maximum of 3 hours per week or fortnight with their mentee, taking part in activities and building community connections. Whether it’s joining a local walking group, visiting a community garden, or sharing a cuppa at a neighbourhood café, the possibilities are endless! Sessions can be held virtually if needed, however we encourage face-to-face meetups to create more meaningful experiences. All activities are funded; we only need you to be a friendly face and a listening ear and be committed to spending dedicated time with your mentee.

Through being a volunteer mentor, you will further develop your interpersonal and personal development skills such as active listening, adaptability and the ability to navigate real life challenges with empathy and kindness. Many of our volunteers have experienced growth in their own confidence and developed a sense of purpose and leadership, as they become a steady and supportive presence in someone’s life.
