Secretary (Office Bearer Role) on the Board of Directors - training provided

Come and join the volunteer board of directors at SiMY Community Development - meet new people, contribute your skills and knowledge, learn new skills, contribute to a charity which changes the lives of young people living in the city centre, and be part of a great, highly motivated team that cares deeply about the people they work with.

SiMY is a youth and community organisation based in Townhead, Glasgow. We run a varied programme of activities designed to support children, young people, and families to grow in confidence, develop new skills, and feel a valued part of the community. Our work encompasses a range of activities, from outdoor adventures to creative projects, mentoring, and skills development opportunities.

As our work continues to grow, particularly with our community hub at Lister Street, we are strengthening our governance by creating a new Secretary office bearer role on our Board of Directors.

The successful applicant will become a Trustee of SiMY, joining our Board and being elected to serve as Secretary. The role requires around 2 hours per week, which includes Board meetings (once a month), preparation, and related responsibilities. This role can be done face-to-face (attending board meetings) or from home (via Teams/email etc).

Key Responsibilities

The Secretary will:

Work with the Chair to prepare and circulate agendas and board papers.

Ensure accurate minutes are taken, recorded, and shared.

Maintain essential governance records (e.g., board membership, conflicts of interest, policies).

Oversee key compliance tasks, such as statutory filings and annual returns.

Support communication and information flow between Trustees and staff.

Help ensure SiMY meets its governance and regulatory obligations.

If you're interested, please click the ‘apply’ button below (available when logged in and registered). You will then be contacted by one of our Team members by email to arrange a quick chat. You will then meet with the Board members to help you feel more confident about taking on this role.
