Treasurer and Board Members

Join Women's Aid Orkney and have the chance to work with the team to support women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Living in a rural community has its own unique challenges when it comes to domestic abuse, you will be part of the board who support us to support those affected and also work towards eradicating violence against women and girls by raising awareness of the issues and offering training to all areas of the community.

As the treasurer you will work with the team to set and monitor budgets and provide financial updates for the board.


Also as a board member, you will be involved in maintaining and developing the services we offer, building resilience for the service going forward, maintain services standards in line with registration requirements and have opportunities to undertake relevant training.


What could a volunteer gain from the experience:
Experience of working with a forward thinking women only team, attending meetings, developing strategies and policies, building a strong service, involvement in consultations on national policies and campaigns and opportunities to help with fund raising.


Experience required


  • Treasurer - knowledge of budget setting and accounting. Use of accounting systems Xero.

  • Board members - commitment to supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse, experience/ knowledge of working with vulnerable groups.

On line for meetings and development days and in person around Orkney for fundraising.

Travel expenses

Travel and training expenses if applicable.

Support
Training details

Training with Scottish Women's Aid on all aspects of domestic abuse will be provided.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
The roles are open to women only under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Frequency & commitment
1.5 hours per month for meetings. All other options are flexible.

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
