Street Based Youth Work Assistant

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to get involved with their Street Based Youth Work project. This project allows youth workers and volunteers to engage with young people who may not have access to local youth provision, or who choose not to be a part of it. Its goal is to meet young people where they choose to be.

As a volunteer, you will join the Street Based Youth Worker on the streets in the evenings to engage with young people. This will involve:
• Building relationships with young people
• Identifying and responding to the needs of young people
• Facilitating meaningful conversations that may result in positive and informed decision making
• Supporting and challenging young people’s attitudes and actions
• Advocating on behalf of young people and bridge gaps in understanding between the local community and young people
• Signposting young people to our services or other service providers

Experience required

Volunteers should be good communicators, and need to be available in the evenings to do this role.
