Befriender Children & Young People (Fife)

Aberlour’s Sycamore Service is a community based cluster of integrated residential, education and fostering services. Over the past 30 years we have earned an excellent reputation for working with children and young people who have experienced disadvantage and trauma as a result of early childhood experiences. We pride ourselves on our child centred focus and strong commitment to the individual development of each child emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually.

Volunteers are a very important part of the healing process required to support our children and young people back into the cycle of positive social development.
What will I be doing?

• Making a difference in a child or young person’s life
• Spending regular time with a child or young person
• Supporting them when difficulties arise
• Sharing an activity/hobby
• Attending activities
• Completing a diary after each visit
• Attending regular support sessions
• Contributing to service assessments through support.


Experience required

• A genuine interest in the well-being of children and young people
• A few hours to spare each week
• Reliability and discretion
• Friendly and approachable
• Non-judgemental attitude
• Good communication and listening skills
• Responsible and dependable

• To have a non-judgemental attitude and approach to working with children and young people
• To be empathetic
• To be able to treat all information in a confidential manner
• Be friendly, helpful and understanding
• Be enthusiastic, flexible, committed and patient.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 18
For all roles involving regulated work with children and/or protected adults, Aberlour will require the applicant to submit a PVG Scheme Record/Update. This opportunity is subject to the completion of satisfactory references & successful PVG registration.

Frequency & commitment
Weekly or Fortnightly 6 month commitment

Volunteers (aged 18-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
