Volunteer Community Conversations Facilitator

Role Purpose:

 

Conversation clubs are more than just casual gatherings; they are essential for personal, cultural, and linguistic development. By providing a platform for practice, exchange, and connection, they contribute significantly to enhancing individuals’ communication skills and broadening their horizons. Whether you're looking to improve your language skills, learn about new cultures, or simply meet new people, conversation clubs offer valuable opportunities that can enrich your life in numerous ways.


 


Key Responsibilities:


 


The Whiteinch center is a community organization that works with a diverse range of individuals in the West of Glasgow. We offer a range of educational and recreational groups for people of all ages and, create an inclusive environment that strengthens positive relationships with the local community, bringing new perspectives and encouraging people from all walks of life to use our services. Conversation Club facilitators are essential in fostering a welcoming and engaging environment for participants, aiming to encourage dialogue and support language learning or cultural exchange. Our Conversation Club Facilitators  undertake several key responsibilities:
 


 


Supporting the Delivery of the Tuesday evening classes.
Plan and organize activities for a 2-hour Conversation Club Each week.
Encouraging conversation between participants using a range of methods
Correcting participants spoken English, but in a way that     encourages them to continue to practice.
Focusing on practical language support such as getting out to the shops or using public transport (this list is not exhaustive)
Helping individuals to learn and practice English letter formation and direction of writing Talk with individuals to find out where they want/need to use English.
Support teaching staff to set tasks between sessions to build independence.


Ensure a welcoming, friendly, and supportive environment for attendees.
Keep the community projects team updated on any issues or concerns which may arise.
