Working Rite is a charity working with young people aged 15-25 to create positive choices for what comes next after school.
We build connections with employers and create chances for young people to grow their skills and confidence in working environments.
We are committed to coaching young people, engaging their families, carers and communities over a sustained period to create long-term change through working.
Connections Mentoring is the third phase of the Working Rite programme. We match young people who have completed our Choices and Chances prorgammes with a volunteer mentor for 12 months of ongoing support. This gives our young people continued guidance during the crucial early stages of working life, and allows them to build connections that sustain the positive growth they have already put in the hard work to achieve.
-The role:
We train our volunteer mentors to take a person-centered approach to their mentees. Each young person is has a different story with different needs, and we encourage mentors to let their mentees take the lead in their own journey, supporting them along the way to build resilience by exploring and identifying their own solutions to the issues and challenges they face.
You will provide support, encouragement, and a listening ear for your mentees as they move through the stages of young adulthood with the inevitable challenges that can entail. We will provide robust training so you feel confident and ready to support your mentee through their journey, and we'll be there to help at any point if you need us. You will work with your mentee to help them set goals around almost anything; sustaining their new job or course, managing budgeting, communication, mental and physical health, just to name a few - it's all down to the young person to figure our their journey, with you there to help them along the way.
We anticipate that mentors will volunteer at least twice a month for approximately one hour. When and where you meet will be up to you and your mentee - it can be flexible to your schedules. You will be matched with a young person with similar interests and will meet with them regularly for an agreed period, usually up to 12 months. Your meetings could be face-to-face online or a combination of both.
No previous experience of mentoring is needed as full training and ongoing support will be provided. If you are a good listener and can commit to building a relationship with a young person and acting as a positive, consistent role model we’d love to hear from you!
A fantastic opportunity to make a real difference for young people and the community. All help is greatly appreciated. For more information please contact Sam Bowen, Administration Coordinator at email: [email protected] or telephone: 0141 737 2869
